It May Be

Dr. Anthony Compolo told the story of elderly people in a retired facility who were asked this question:  If you could live your life all over again, what would you do differently?  Here is what they responded:  We would reflect more.  We would take more risk.  We would do things that would live on long after we were gone.

I have always gravitated towards the “take more risk” part.  Something tells me that maybe one reason Christianity in America has lost it’s spark is because it has essentially been made “risk free”  Well meaning people (probably preachers) over a period of time, decided that if we make it more generic we will attract more people.  The experts were wrong!

Here’s a passage to ponder:  “Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, ‘Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised; it may be that the LORD will work for us.  For nothing restrains the LORD from saving by many or by few”(1Samuel 14:6).  Read the entire context of the story and you get the feeling that Johanthan initiated a fight based on what God could do. Maybe when we get to heaven we will find out that God was really waiting on us to declare and we decline. Maybe heaven’s armies are wondering why is it that God’s people many times are never proactive and are most often reactive.

My challenge is not that of a maniac but something spiritually close. One could argue that a guy who steps out of a boat in a storm is asking to be swallowed up by the sea.  Or maybe he knows something about the power and the grace of God.  What about a Roman centurion who thought t that maybe the necessary ingredient for a miracle is a spoken word by a Carpenter.  Finally what about a sick lady who thought that maybe if she could get through the crowd and touch the hem of his clothing, something would happen that had not happened in three decades of “normal” treatment.

Today what risk on your part has heaven been waiting for you to activate.  When I initiate something that is in alignment with God’s Character and God’s purpose the miraculous happens.  Take a risk today. It May Be…
