I Have Learned

Learning can indeed be painful. Just ask Joseph. The guys (and ladies) in my Wednesday morning small group recently had a great discussion about Joseph. One truth that came out of the discussion was that God needed to take Joseph on a rather painful journey to ensure that the Joseph who emerged on center stage as Prime Minister of Egypt had the essential God quality to act responsibly in order that God’s sovereign plan could be fulfilled.

Today, during my devotion time I read this passage written by St. Paul by the faint light through the window of a Philippian jail. Here is what he wrote:

I'm glad in God, far happier than you would ever guess—happy that you're again showing such strong concern for me. Not that you ever quit praying and thinking about me. You just had no chance to show it. Actually, I don't have a sense of needing anything personally. I've learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. I'm just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little. I've found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty. Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am. I don't mean that your help didn't mean a lot to me—it did. It was a beautiful thing that you came alongside me in my troubles.(Philippians 4:11-13-The Message)

At every mile marker in life there is a lesson that God is teaching us. The next time you are involved in one of those casual conversations that that you know is all fluff, just ask the person this question. What is God teaching you at this moment in your life? Lean forward, because the conversation is about to get sobering. Why? Because as someone noted, “it is in the quiet crucible of our personal private pain that our noblest self is revealed and God’s greatest gifts are given.”

In the crucible of his soul’s darkest night, Job learned more about God than he had ever imagine. Here is what he said,”I had heard of You [only] by the hearing of the ear, but now my [spiritual] eye sees You”(Job 42:5-Amphlified).

It is a pity that often, we are forever learning and yet never learning the things that really matter. Today the Holy Spirit invites all of us to enroll in heavens character building school. AMEN!

More, more about Jesus;
More, more about Jesus;
More of his saving fullness
More of His love, who died for me.
